Jorge and his family were very excited to have this experience because they don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in their country. One of the most interesting things Jorge learned was how Thanksgiving is celebrated in the United States and how families preserve this tradition. Jorge compared the holiday tradition to Christmas Eve in Guatemala because of its similarity to having a private gathering with family. Another interesting experience was the family had vegan food for the very first time. “We felt very fortunate to be part of this tradition with such an amazing family” said Jorge. Not only did they have an enriching Thanksgiving experience, but the host family also recommended how to stay warm in the winter (especially since Jorge and his family are new to snow) and fun activities to do during the winter.
Overall, Jorge says he had a wonderful time and this was the best experience him and his family had in Rochester. A big thanks to Tim, Teresa, Julia, Lily and Peggy for being such a wonderful host family.
